A Christmas Tale from Puget Sound

Greetings from Pilot Point

To Rosalinda  From Jon,

Here on the frigid edge of Puget Sound our back porch temperature has been around 18 degrees every morning this week and the water out front has looked like those hot pools in Yellowstone with steam rising into the air. It is so cold that it brings to mind a Christmas Eve some years past. The small brass band, of which I was a member, decided to roam the neighborhood playing Christmas music that cold evening and then retire to my home where we would have a toddy or two and celebrate the season with our spouses and significant others.

Well, it was so cold that when we attempted to play our various instruments, blowing into our mouthpieces produced no sound on the other end of the horns. We played and we played but the music just froze inside and wouldn’t come out. We were all very disappointed at not being able to serenade our neighbors. However, we looked forward to our planned celebration.

Alas, when we arrived back at my home the power was out and the house was quite cold. We managed to get fires going in the fireplaces and the wood stove provided enough warmth to heat up our refreshments. The only thing we were missing was the seasonal music from the non-working stereo. The house was warming up from the fires and the presence of the many friends when lo and behold; we heard sounds coming from the room where we had left our instruments. The music had thawed and was now pouring beautifully from our horns. Needless to say, we enjoyed very much being serenaded by ourselves.

Best Wishes for a Wonderful Holiday Season!
Love. Jon and Carol
