This is a post that addresses the initial steps in ending a drug addiction. This includes alcohol addiction. The process will defer when dealing with addictions like gambling, overeating, sex addictions and the like. The main site [ www.dgswilson.com ] covers all the commonalities and provides solutions. But in with Drug Addiction and alcoholism we need one thing to happen first. We need a detox facility.
I’m no fan of government subsidized treatment but I do see a few positives in it. But first we need to detox. What I mean by a detox facility is any place that supplies people with a space and some medication. My medication of choice is Librium. If it’s taken for three days the worst of the condition associated with physical detox will be over.
As important as some form of withdrawal medication is the place itself is of equal value. Detox centers are full of people who are there to detox. There aren’t any people looking at you funny, trying to talk to you, offering you drugs and so on. Most of the places I’m familiar with offer a 5 to 7 day detox.
Most of them have people who can direct you to treatment centers. The good thing about treatment centers is they too offer addicts a place to be. You may learn nothing there, you may spend your days there doing little more than going through more withdrawal. Like the detox centers, treatment centers are the best places to do this.
There is one other thing to do – an action to take – and that is to concentrate on the nutritional aspects of the body – that would include the brain. A knowledgeable, Homeopathic Nutrition Expert can do more for a persons chances in recovery than all the treatment jargon on earth. Here is a link to my addiction/holistic resource directory. Bookmark it.
I’d like to offer you a name and number but I haven’t met anybody willing to take on that “Nutrition Adviser” position. Most people see addiction as a lost cause. Doctor’s tell me that there are a lot of people far easier to work with than addicts and the relapse thing is too depressing. So it may be necessary to accept responsibility for this aspect of your recovery upfront and not expect anybody to hand you anything.
In fact personal responsibility plays a major role in any successful recovery – successful as in permanent. When all this is accomplishing it would be nice to see you back here. Become a member of this site by following this link to the forum
