It’s no stretch of truth to say that the future conditions of our world rests on your shoulders. On one hand this is just the natural course of events. You will grow up and we will be gone. These days the significance of your involvement has been increased. This is due to the advanced stage of our societal systems. There is also the lack of quality adult leadership in the world today. It is basically falling to you since my generation and the generation of my parents has fallen short of the task. The task being – maintaining a livable, sustainable nation.
Let me point out that the world is not lacking sane, intelligent adults. The problem is they’ve been all but drowned out by the cacophony of consumerism’s propaganda machine. There is no group as susceptible to consumer enticement than young people. My generation was conned through this enticement process and as a result we’ve all but sentenced you to a life of practical slavery. You see the seats of power need to be filled with the best people in order to have the best nation. You will need to take control of those positions of power.
First I’d like to say that in spite of any teaching you’ve received so far there are no limitations for you. I’m sure you’ve been introduced to limitations in a big way already. You probably have curfews, dress codes and other limitations of this kind you’re operating under right now. Wherever you go, whether you’re home, at school or out in public there are rules. These regulate not only your activities but your entire thought process. You are even now developing mind sets.
Mind sets are almost always imposed, in one way or another, on us. One of these mind sets might be that you need a good education in order to succeed in life. This is true. But what is lying underneath this statement and the resulting mind set – which you’ll drag with you like a ball and chain? You see mind sets are the equivalent of “thought prisons”. The people who tell you that you need a good education to achieve success are also attempting to implant there ideas about good education and success in your mind.
Rule number one might be: Question everything. If the people in your life aren’t receptive to questions – discard them and their ideas and find people who are receptive. If the people in your life can’t answer your questions, to your satisfaction – discard them and find people who can. In this case discard does not mean rid them from your life completely. It just means discard them as sources of knowledge for the particular questions. People who know diddly about economics might know every good thing about taking care of newborns. Every person has value. The point is not to accept that a person is the best source simply because they hold a position or have a weighty title.
You may have noticed the complete lack of economic reason coming out of the world of economists. Our current economic disaster was created by the same economics teaching in top colleges today. You may wonder why those in government produce little or no solutions to the countries problems. Titles and positions don’t make the best people or the best nation. People make themselves into the best people, and if they choose to do so, can effect other people, communities, nations and the world in positive ways.
The idea that the education you will receive in our current education system is “a good education” is strictly opinion. Likewise, all ideas you’ve heard about success are only opinions. The notion that there are rules governing your activities, choices and future is not absolute. The idea that there are societal boundaries and guidelines is not absolute. While you may have to adhere to certain limitations to stay out of trouble you have no obligation to accept anything anyone tells you – no matter who they are and that includes me. But discarding something out of hand won’t help. That in itself won’t change things to your liking. The greatest limitations people have is the limitations we’ve placed on our selves. Oh well and whatever are huge self imposed psychological limitations. The grown up equivalent is – what’s the use, there’s nothing we can do.
There is a theme I’ve established for this website. It’s – The Self Determined Path. If anyone wants to determine their own path then they will need to question everything and everyone. Here are some questions – Why do we need an education system? Who decides what success is? Who came up with the rules, laws and regulations of our society? Why would society want a fractional reserve monetary system? Believe it or not, all these question are interrelated. In order to really answer one of these you’d need to answer all of them. If you don’t understand all of them you could wind up being a serious detriment to yourself and your society instead of an asset. We have a nation of people who can’t explain these things to you. We have an extremely undereducated society. Education is a personal responsibility.
We either take charge of ourselves and our society or society will take charge of us….Watch this video: David Suzukis Daughter
I’ll leave you with a few thoughts of a more personal nature. This will be in the opinion category and you can take it or leave it.
What’s Important
Very little of what you think of as “important” today will be of the same importance to you a year from now or ten years from now. A year after that it will change again, three years after that it will change again. This will continue – don’t let yourself get stuck.
Appearances
Looks can be deceiving. One of the big deals with young people is an infatuation with looks. I’ve spent far to much time concerned about how I looked. I wanted to attract people (girls) who looked a certain way. In the big picture of important things – looks rate far down the scale. Behavior is important. The best relationships are built around behavior. Relationships that are built around appearance are not the most desirable. Most of the time they fall apart. Chasing appearance is a waste of life. Fads are all based on appearance. Ideas about the importance of appearances are put in our heads by people who profit from our acceptance of these ideas. The corporate world is bombarding us 24/7 to get these ideas accepted as real – and important. They’re really neither.
Sex
Sex is just sex. It feels good and it creates more people. All I can think of, aside from it’s not really that important either, is don’t have sex with people who are stuck on appearances. Don’t have sex with people you don’t know. It takes a long time to know people because they pretend to be something they’re not. If you’re one of those who is hooked on appearances you can be fooled, abused and hurt repeatedly.
