Better Dreaming

There are a lot of people who are interested in dreams. There is a good reason for this. When approached in the right working manner we can gain a lot from our dreams. I started a meditation practice when I was going through my last awful drug withdrawal. I had to, because I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t sleep which made me mad and then I’d think about how bad I was going to feel in the morning and that would make it worse…So, I started my little “focus on the breath” routine. I may not sleep, but at least I don’t have to lay here  grinding my brain. As it turns out, this is one of the ingredients in intuitive dreaming.

At night, when you close your eyes, focus on the breath. Ask, whatever you direct your “higher power” talk to – to direct you to what is best. It’s always best to get the most out of every experience so we’re home free on that one. Now,  just focus. Do this until you go to sleep. As I have done this over the years two very apparent changes have taken place in my dream world life. One: I have been able to defeat some of those “dream monsters” who used to torment me. We fight and I win. Two: I seem to be more aware of the dream scape as a dream scape. Sometimes I know I’m not on earth in the way I am when awake. I just have a feeling that something is different in a familiar sort of way. Knowing I’m in a different place doesn’t seem to bother me.  It’s that I’m aware of it at all that seems  interesting. Those two things – feeling more aware and being more in control of my self and my dream time surroundings. Nice benefits for doing something that makes you feel better.

Upon awakening I should go to the breath again. I don’t want the brain to get started. I put all my attention on what just happened. Not being able to remember dreams is more about never bothering to do what it takes then not being able. We can keep our brains still for a few minutes and see what comes to us. We will remember the significant parts of the dream and we will understand a lesson or theme in them. Sometimes we’ll know that we should do something. I am writing this as a result of this process. It seemed apparent as I looked at my dream thoughts this morning, that I should write about what I’ve been doing in regard to my dream life.

For those of you who don’t wake up quickly, I guess it may be slightly different. Maybe you’ll stay more in touch with the dream state. I am one of those people who open my eyes and stand up. So I really have to be conscious of being focused. I’ve got a really busy brain. If any of this stuff works with “my brain”  it means it really does work. I should say that if you start tonight – it may be no significant changes tonight. This is all foundational work. We just add one stone on top of the other and in hindsight we see what is built.
