Ethics Today

In today's world, it is fashionable and ethical to be environmentally friendly. Mary Kay Cosmetics is keeping up with this trend by using more botanical ingredients and re-usable packaging.

Ever wondered how many cosmetic compacts get thrown out, and why they're not being recycled?

Mary Kay Cosmetics realized that compacts can and should be recycled, and decided to launch the Pink Going Green campaign that plants a tree for every compact that is returned, up to 100,000 trees.

Plus, their new shipping "peanuts" are made from corn and potato starch rather than styrofoam. That means they decompose incredibly quickly and won't ever wind up in a landfill. Make sure that the next compact you use up doesn't end up in the trash - it could mean the same as a tree. Thanks to the efforts of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants and their customers who recycled their old platinum and pink compacts, Mary Kay planted an ENTIRE FOREST in the Bitterroot National Forest.

That's 200,000 trees! Mary Kay corporate employees, willingly (okay maybe they fussed just a little) gave up their space heaters and turned off the lights in their work area when they weren't being used, which saved enough electricity in 2008 to power more than 700 homes for a whole year. They continue to recycle the water and alcohol that is left over after they manufacture their products; and the alcohol can be used in the production of fuel. For 20 years employees have recycled paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and now plastic bottles, saving tons of landfill waste. They continuing to find ways to reduce the amount of plastics and paper used in their product packaging, and to make all our products more recyclable.
