Finding Purpose In Addiction Recovery

At some point, for some time, everyone would like to have something to do in life, some purpose, some meaning. In 12 Step programs it’s suggested we turn our will and life over to god. It’s suggested we pray for knowledge of gods will for us and the power to carry that out.

You’ll hear people in recovery say, “As long as I’m doing gods will I’ll be okay…”.

As far as I can say this is not in any way possible. How would a person find out what gods will for them was, providing there was a god and that god had a will for us (a plan)? To me this is phenomenal silliness.

I suggest if you want a purpose in life – pick one. If you don’t like how your life is working out with your chosen purpose – pick another one.
