Got Any Ideas?
"Joining A Fragmented Social Movement"
Some years ago I was wondering what I would like to do. What I came up with was "Do the best thing I could do, to transform the world around me into a better, safer, saner place for people to live". When I was deciding what the best way to do this was, I kept coming up with one thing. What is the main weapon in the arsenal of the people who want the opposite of what I want? What I needed was a network TV station. One that would make as much noise and be as easy to get as that of my opposition. So all I needed was millions of dollars and people with experience in: technical, FCC law, corporate law, connections to pay off, access to satellite....That was all I needed. So I decided to learn html and build a web site. That was the only "doable" I could come up with. So I have one. So do 200 million others. So do you. I still don't see any change. Reorganization, redistribution - but nothing truly significant. What's the problem? Why isn't it getting done? It's not a lack of ideas. All the tools being used by the destroyers are our ideas. It's not that there isn't a need, or a desire for change. In fact, that desire is almost universal. Different specifics but overall everyone agrees that a change for the better is - overdue. Then what's the main problem?
Solidarity. We have solidarity on the need for "some" change. Put that in the done pile. What's next? Solidarity: as to the problem. Why do we lack this consensus? What do the tyrants have that we don't have? What they have is a great big, centralized, cohesive, non partisan voice that broadcasts 24/7. It may have the appearance of partisanship but that is part of the cohesiveness. The unrelenting singleness of purpose.
We don't have that. We need that. If we are going to change things, we need what they have. The good news is it's very easy. In fact we could have it next week. We could have a unified united front working in the spirit of solidarity. So why don't we? I think it's money. Not the lack of money. This is just what I see. I see the only obstacle to our succeeding, to bring about a sweeping, dramatic, positive change, is money. So how is it doing this? It's there. It's there in every thought and action. We need it - to live. The only obstacle, the deterrent to universal change - that universal problem - is money. Everybody wants change. It goes along fine until we get to the money, then it fizzles. It stops things. It stands in opposition. It kills solidarity. No one can agree on it.
What I would like to do is create a movement that has solidarity. I can't do this if I try to talk about money. So I'll talk about, up to money. If the main weapon of the opposition is the media - lets get the best media we can. Lets all unite our resources, forget our reconstruction differences, agree on a venture and make it a reality. If we had the most popular TV station on the Internet I think it would turn the tide. There are hundreds of good TV stations on the web right now. Lets unite them in the pursuit of one common goal. There are thousands of sites on the Internet all saying the same thing (we need a change) let's unite them. Lets make our voices a unified voice. Then we'll have power. Then we'll have a comparable weapon. The playing field will be more level. At least we'll stand a chance.
I won't try to include everything in this letter. I have a vision of solidarity. It is up to you to decide if it's necessary to the success of your visionary goal. I guess I would encourage you in this way: No matter what your vision is for the future, control of that future is necessary. Who has control now? Well - it's not you. It's not us. So in solidarity we need to gain control. In solidarity we need to agree on the opposition. Then all energies need to be directed toward that opposition, at all available volume. We need to get on message. Stay there till we win.
For now I want to put forth the idea of the "most popular" TV station on the web. I see it as the most useful tool we can work with - today. I don't care what your vision of society is. Doesn't matter to me if you're a socialists, communist, imperialist etc. Don't care what your ideas about money are. You want to use gold, shells or smiles as currency - that's fine by me. I don't see any good reason to discuss it. It doesn't matter. If you can agree to unite in an effort to wrest control from those who have control, we're on the same team.
If so, get back to me and let's get to work on building the tool.
I've made a short list of like minded (loosely termed) sites and people:
or religious ideology. For now it needs to be freestanding and fixed on a specific goal.
That being - get control - from those who currently - have control. Nothing will happen without this
- after this anything is possible.
